There’s something pretty special about a local taking the reins of a business that’s been part of the Sunshine Coast for almost four decades. At just 29, Alex Dwyer stepped into the role of Managing Director of Dwyer Quality Homes – the business he has been part of since he was a teenager.  

He’s worked his way through almost every aspect of the business, learning the ins and outs of what makes this company tick. Now Alex is helping guide Dwyer Quality Homes into its next chapter, bringing fresh energy and a forward-thinking mindset to a business grounded in quality, local knowledge and genuine care. 

From Learning the Ropes to Leading the Way

Born and raised on the Coast, Alex has a strong connection to the area and the people who call it home.. Since officially joining the team in 2014, he’s rolled up his sleeves and worked across everything from project management to financial systems, learning the ropes from the ground up. 

“Becoming the leader of Dwyer Quality Homes is something I have wanted to do for a very long time,” Alex said.

“I’ve been very lucky to work closely with Ben Murphy, our former General Manager, and I’m really pleased he’s staying on as part of the crew – his experience and support are invaluable.” 

Blending Tech-Savvy Thinking with Family Values

From the start, Alex brought fresh thinking to the table. With a knack for technology, he introduced new tools and custom processes that supported both clients and staff throughout the home-building process.

Now, as Managing Director, Alex is leading the company with a strong mix of practical problem-solving and people-first thinking. He’s passionate about keeping the process honest and transparent for clients and continuing to build homes that locals are proud to live in.

People First, Always

For Alex, the heart of Dwyer Quality Homes is the tight-knit crew behind the scenes. 

“I’m proud of the homes we build, and I’m even prouder of the team who makes it happen,” he said. “They genuinely care about what they do, and it shows in the quality of each and every finished product.”

The culture of care and commitment has helped the team build almost 2,000 homes across the Sunshine Coast, Gympie and South Brisbane areas since 1985. No matter how much the business grows, the goal is always the same: deliver quality homes with no hidden surprises and a process that feels personal from start to finish. 

Life Away From the Tools

When he’s not in the office, Alex enjoys everything the Sunshine Coast has to offer. He loves to visit the Coast’s gorgeous beaches and stop by local wine bars for catch-ups with friends.

A classic chicken parmi is his go-to meal, and he dreams of owning a classic 1960s Kombi one day. A keen golfer, Alex often spends his weekends on the green and loves shopping for the latest golf gear.

What’s Next? 

2025 is shaping up to be a milestone year for Alex, both professionally and personally. With Dwyer Quality Homes celebrating its 40th anniversary in December, Alex and his wife are welcoming their first child as well. 

With a down-to-earth nature and clear-eyed vision, Alex is leading the business into this exciting new chapter, revitalising a proud legacy with fresh energy, smart systems and the same focus on quality and transparency. 

“We take an immense amount of pride in building homes for the community that we’ve been a part of for the past 40 years,” Alex said. 

“Our local connection to the Sunshine Coast is really important to us, and I’m really excited to continue creating lasting relationships with the community under my leadership.”
